Course Description
The Hybrid WFR course model designed by Wilderness Medical Associates includes both an e-learning (30+ hours) and in-person (40+ hours) module. This format allows for the majority of our in-person time to be spent outdoors practicing skills, participating in drills, and doing simulations. The Hybrid WFR is suited for those new to wilderness medicine as well as those with some previous medical experience.
Instructed by Abby Rowe–owner and president of WMA with decades of work experience in the field including trip leading in most every environment as well as Advanced EMT and Search and Rescue.

Course fee includes all texts.Students must register by May 6th, 2022 to receive access to, and adequately complete, the required online learning module. All students must complete the e-module (30+ hours) by JUNE 11th in order to attend the in-person session (40+ hours).

Training begins promptly at 8:30am each day and ends no later than 6:00pm.

Toponexus–Center for Learn Local is located a block from Lake Michigan at 343 State St in scenic downtown Harbor Springs, MI. Both the indoor classroom and nearby outdoor learning sites are top notch!

Expect to use universal precautions for patient care; per WMA, we will be wearing a mask and gloves when doing drills/simulations during this course
Covid Vaccination is required for all students and instructors. Other covid precautions will be added if required by state or local mandate at the time the course occurs.

Students are expected to have a working knowledge of computers and access to high-speed Internet for the 30+-hour e-learning module. Please review the minimum technology requirements for the hybrid WFR here before registering for the course. The online learning module is designed with multiple learning preferences in mind including interactive videos, readings, self-practice assignments, quizzes, and case studies. If your schedule permits, allowing 6 weeks for the e-learning module is considered ideal.

Harbor Springs, MI provides an incredible setting for your in-person WFR module. The Center for Learn Local is a welcoming classroom and home base for your learning! We are located at the base of the bluff and within a block of the deepest harbor in the Great Lakes.
Drills and scenarios will take place outdoors, rain or shine! You will be learning in city parks located within yards of Lake Michigan and nearby forest preserves.
During your off-time, enjoy access to public beaches, boat launches, a city marina, the Little Traverse Wheelway, and a nature preserve all within walking distance. Within a 10-minute drive, you can access Lake Michigan beaches and many nature preserves with biking and hiking trails. Plus the Mackinaw bridge is just a half-hour north! -
STUDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN MEALS AND SNACKS.
